STRETCHING IS UNDER RATED

STRETCHING DAILY CAN ADD 10 YEARS TO OUR LIFE

Stretching may just seem like "another" good idea but not something that is necessary for our exercise routine.  Like it's something we do "if we have time" before or after our workout.  After all, the main idea is getting out there and moving whether it be running, walking, or a class at the gym, right?

Ops, not so fast, my friend, stretching can help your flexibility, which may prevent injury not only during a workout but in your daily living adding to a quality life.  
We need to understand why stretching can help and maybe even more importantly how to stretch correctly.  We can even stretch where we spend the most time and it could even be.....at the computer!

Stretching can decrease your possibility of injury so your joints move through their full range of motion all of the time. 
An example, if your Achilles tendon (this has been my issue from years of running) is tight and lacks flexibility it can increase your risk of tendinitis.  With stretching you can improve the range of motion in your ankle.  And make air circles with your feet after your stretch to allow the blood flow to reach all parts of your foot.  It's important to take care of our feet that carry us around all day everyday!
Stretching can help flexibility and "that" can give you better performance at work or ease in all physical activities.  


Stretching the right way:
Gently stretch before 
and always stretch after a workout 
or if you've been sitting in one position for longer than 20 minutes.


Never stretch 'until it hurts' the old phrase 'no pain no gain' is NOT GOOD when we talk about stretching.  
Stretch so it feels good and work up to a hold for about 30 seconds.

Stretching can lengthen your life because it increases blood flow to the muscles you are stretching and it improves the quality of life with less pain and a lot less stiffness.  You'll even sleep better!  Makes sense, right?  I thought you would agree! :)  And you don't even have to be in workout clothes to stretch!  Hooray for that!
