ORGANIC GARDEN-IAC

"TURNING OVER" YOUR SOIL TO THE SUPER NATURAL
6-DIRT-DEEP-SUGGESTIONS FOR THE
ORGANIC GARDENER
#1 - STOP using anything that does not say "Organic" when purchasing your gardening compost, fertilizer, and soils. This is advice that is "dirt cheap" and the "down-deep-subject" for starting an organic garden.
The theory is that if the soil is healthy enough we don't need pesticides. However , our soils have become  poor and unworthy of healthy growing. A professional farmer will take 5-years to become legally "certified" to sell "organic" because of the soil preparation. But even a beginning home garden will be healthier than food purchased in a market with pesticides
all over them and then into your bloodstream.

#2 - DE-BUGGING includes purchasing LADY BUGS because they eat the aphids through the growing process. Find a good source. Planting onions and marigolds in-between veggies is also a way to help keep bugs away that eat up your garden.

#3. ZONING: research your growing zone. There are classified as 1-10 zones for weather, freezing, heat, what to plant, when to plant, and insure your success.
Your zone can be found in detail for your area. I know my Facebook page: Mind Body Heal and my blog, Mind Body Heal By Nancy, are reaching several growing zones now so I cannot give specific suggestions to your area.
Study out YOUR GROWING ZONE
to know when to plant. Your search will give advice on which vegetables or fruit to grow in your area.

#4.  LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION It's true with everything, right? With most gardens will need about 6-8 HOURS of direct SUN. Selecting your location is critical for your Organic Garden. The sun "grows" your garden with vitamin D. Whether your garden is on a patio outside your apartment, small like the one pictured here & protected from small intruders, or larger you need good sun and a consistent watering system.
#5. MULCH application is the best time-saving measure a gardener can take because they are healthier, more weed free, and more drought resistant. Two types of mulch: organic and in-organic. ORGANIC mulch is a healthy dark cover, preferably "aged", fine to medium texture, formerly living (but broken-down), heavy enough to stay put, and free of contaminants/disease. IN-ORGANIC mulch examples are black plastic (which keeps ground warm at night) and geo-textiles (landscape fabrics).

#6. YOUR TIME: plan on one full day of gardening or spread out that 8 hours during a week.  Have a plan to till the soil, free it of weeds, make sure the watering system is reaching all plants appropriately, check for bugs, add your lady bugs, prune, harvest, etc.

Organic Gardening is worth it.
It will help YOU be HEALTHIER.
You will know what is in and on your food.
You will know it is pesticide free and NOT causing illness
